Abolition of all paper counterpart licences now moved to 8th June 2015

The DVLA's intentions were to abolish all paper counterpart licences with effect from January 2015, causing concern and some confusion amongst the motor vehicle and insurance industry.

The DVLA, in conjunction with the Department of Transport have now revised the proposed date for abolition following pressure from certain motor trade and industry bodies such as the BVRLA and have now confirmed the scheduled date has been moved to the 8th June 2015. See https://www.gov.uk/government/news/driving-licence-changes

Further information and advice regarding the proposed changes can be found via the

BVRLA (British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association) website

What does this mean for TFP Schemes and our brokers?

Driving licence verification is an integral part of client identification and anti-fraud measures within the Insurance industry and it is imperative that we continue to be able to access client and driver information to ensure the hard work in these areas achieved over recent years continues.

A number of Electronic solutions to driving licence validation are in development, including

  • MyLicence via the ABI/MIB,
  • SMDR (Share My Driving Record) and the
  • DVLA's own ADD (Access to Driver Data)

More information regarding the options available can be found on the DVLA's Blog by following the attached link click here

Being at the forefront of technological developments TFP Schemes has been investigating all available options for some time now, with a view to seeking a solution that will meet not only the customers needs but also your and our requirements. We are also looking at changes to our administration processes and will keep you informed of these as they develop.
